Event Title: The Art of the Blend: Featuring Bruce Regalia
Date: July 25, 2010
Time: 12:30PM - 1:45PM PT
Location: Garden of the Sea at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice
University of San Diego
Description:

In this special pre-event tasting, we will explore the components of a single vineyard chardonnay to see how they contribute to the final blend prior to bottling. We will look at the influences of oak (new vs. used) and cooperage, malo lactic fermentation, barrel fermented vs. stainless steel and then see how they meld together to create a finished wine. You will taste all these components directly from the unfiltered barrel and then blend the components to craft the finished Chardonnay.

About Bruce Regalia:

Bruce is affectionately known as “Mr. Pinot” to industry insiders throughout the Napa, Sonoma and Anderson Valley producing areas.

He is an organized, meticulous crafter of fine wines with a long history in viticulture and winemaking. In 1985, Bruce moved to Anderson Valley in Mendocino County where he managed a 120-acre vineyard of cool climate varietals. At Navarro Vineyards he sold fruit and began making wine under the tutelage of his friend Tom Lane and in 1990 became the winemaker and vineyard manager for Obester Winery. In 1996 Bruce launched an ultra premium Pinot Noir label called Goldeneye for Duckhorn Wine Company, which had purchased Obester. Today, Bruce heads the winemaking at Madrigal Vineyards while consulting for many California wineries including Kimmel Vineyards.
